I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the fall of 2017. At the time, I was given several medication options and that just didn't feel right for me. I had a feeling there was more I could be doing to help myself feel better. I started doing my own research, coming across multiple people living and thriving with MS through diet and lifestyle changes. That gave me the hope and inspiration I needed to keep going in that direction. I started on a Paleo based diet (Wahls Protocol) and that seemed to work pretty well for me, though I had a hard time sticking to it 100% of the time. It was a HUGE change for me and it was SO hard to give up the foods I knew and grew up eating.

A few months after my diagnosis, I got pregnant with my daughter. I had a hard time sticking to my paleo diet through pregnancy but I felt great. After I had her, I got back on track with my diet. All was good, my MRI’s stayed stable. 3 1/2 years later, I had my son. I totally fell off track and was back to eating the standard American diet. When I went in for my MRI 6 months postpartum, I had a feeling this one wasn’t going to be a clean report like the others. I felt crappy, I was tired all the time. Not just tired from having a baby and a toddler, I was downright exhausted and could barely stay awake after 3 PM. My MRI showed I had one new lesion. It was the kick in the butt I needed to get back on track and STAY on track.

A couple of weeks later, I came across a nutritional therapy practitioner that was certified in teaching the Wahls Protocol, which was the autoimmune diet I had been “attempting” for 5 years. I set up a discovery call with her and we totally hit it off! She was just like one of those people that I read about that was thriving with MS. Her story motivated and inspired me and I ended up working with her. It was a total game changer for me! I learned through her that there is no one diet that’s perfect for everyone because we are all unique and DIFFERENT! I didn’t know what an NTP was when I had found her but I know the reason our paths crossed were not only to help me get back on track, but she inspired me so much that I knew early on with working with her that I wanted to become an NTP and help others in the way she was helping and encouraging me!
